Blogging From A to Z — ‘News’

April 16, 2013

a-to-z-letters-n

Definition: A broadcast or published report of news.

Some days I just wish I could crawl under a rock and not have to listen to the news. Never seems to be anything positive in the news anymore. Always death and destruction and most of it senseless. At the same time I know I have to keep up with current events that affect the world around me. So many lives ruined because of another’s fear or anger and not a dammed thing I can do to help.

I cannot stand the feeling of helplessness and I cannot understand why people do to each other what they do. So much hate in this world its amazing that the sun still shines.

Today I say a prayer for those in Boston and around the world coping with yet another atrocity against human kind.

Peace on Earth.

And I as well. It was horrific. It always is but it never dulls the shock or the pain seeing it happen.

There’s a large amount of hate in this world. It is not all sunshine and roses. Life is cruel. I rarely watch the news, because the news is all negative. My thoughts go out to the victims of the Boston Marathon explosions. Humans are the most narcissistic, evil creatures out there.

Those feelings of helplessness are so awful. I also do not often watch the news – it is just awful awful what we are capable of.
But there is good news amongst all the negativity – the smile of a child, or the eyes of the elderly when you reach out a hand. A dog that comes to greet you when you come home, or the antics of those cats …

The cable news shows are too much for me now. I refuse to watch their sensationalist take on stories, especially as they are unfolding. Even online though, some of the headlines were outrageous and seemed more like exploiting the situation rather than reporting on it. I try to stick with NPR, the AP and some other more straightforward sources. If I want an opinion article, I know where to find those too.

It was a sad day yesterday.

I completely agree. I am going to check out NPR and try to read more AP I usually end up reading our local news online.

“We sure could use a little good news today.” Thus sang Anne Murray. I could’t agree more.

If you think reading it is bad, please share a thought for those of who write (or have written) that “information.” It’s as depressing for us as it is for you, if not more so.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

I agree Rob-Bear… yes I write fictional death but dealing with that sort of mayhem in real life I could not imagine.

*hugs* to you as well 🙂

I do my best not to focus on just the news and the facts. This way I stay informed but not overwhelmed. Wallowing is not productive for anyone.

I’m with you. I even work slightly inside the news world. Cancelled cable last year. Not missing it at all.
