Why I Love Saturdays

June 1, 2013

image

It is without a doubt the most finely choreographed chaos and certainly the busiest day of my week.

Im up and at the local YMCA for 10 am for swimming lessons for my younger two at 1030 (Ive learned parking is atrocious if I attempt to come any later). Big girl goes and hangs out in Youth room.

Out and redressed in TaeKwonDo gear for lessons at 12. If we are lucky (we almost always are as we have this down to a fine art at this point) I get to have a quick Tim Hortons run with my girls between the two.

Then while they are kicking tail Im doing some track time. They are done for 1 and my oldest heads to dance class while I run the littles home and jump in the shower. Back to the Y again for lunch with the oldest between classes.

Shes off to TaeKwonDo at 230 (I try and sneak in a quick coffee break with my Burn Buddy if we can) and Im scooping up everyone 330 to head to church for choir.

Mass at 5 then home to dinner for 630. Its usually spaghetti night for us which means hubbys cooking!

I round out the evening with some movie time and snuggles.

Long busy day but it has a common theme. Its time I get to spend with my kids. I get to be no one else but Mom. And I love nothing more than watching them do their thing and beem when they say “Hey Mom didja seee that???”

COVER REVEAL!!! Dragon Twins

May 30, 2013

Hi everyone! I am super excited to be able to share with you what my lovely designer Miranda Stork over at Moon Rose Publishing  has cooked up for the second novel in the Stan Brookshire series. I cannot thank this woman enough!

Release date is June 30th, 2013!

Please make sure you like the Facebook page to find out more details and to enter giveaways I will be having on various blogs leading up to its release!

The Blurb

Separated at birth…reunited by murder.

Behind the gates of an exclusive Lake City neighborhood, prominent businessman Don Chu’s housekeeper has been brutally murdered and his teenage daughter taken. The high-profile case has the Mayor himself sending the case across Detective Stan Brookshire’s desk. He barely has time to digest the details of the two sinister crimes before he’s called to yet another disturbing scene.

This time, at the other end of the city, another murder and attempted kidnapping ring out with a similarity too convenient for coincidence. As the clues fall into place and the evidence mounts, Stan starts to see a pattern emerge. A DNA match, and the two cases now become one. With the help of an unexpected young ally, Stan begins his search for a victim that may still be alive. It’s a race against the clock and across the globe that will test his skills to the absolute limit. Two murders. Two kidnappings. Twice the danger.

The Excerpt

A loud noise startled Jade from her slight doze. As she straightened up in her chair, she glanced at the clock on her bedside table across the room that held her textbooks. Eleven thirty-five.

Leaning back at her desk, she reached over and felt the bowl of soup Wei-Lee, the family housekeeper, had brought. It had been piping hot but now it was tepid. She estimated she was out less than half an hour.

Another crash came from the direction of the kitchen. What on earth was Wei-Lee doing at this time of night to make that much noise?

Jade started to get up when the door to her room flew open and two almost identical Asian men burst into her room. Grabbing her before she could make a sound, her feet lashed out and knocked the books to the floor as they dragged her toward the door.

“You’re coming with us,” one of the men said in a thick, Chinese accent. “You can either come quietly or we’ll drag you out.”

“There’s no way I’m letting you take me anywhere!” she yelled, struggling against them. Their grip loosened and this time she racked her nails across one man’s cheek. Crying out in pain, he released her arm to protect his face.

She ran out of the bedroom and down the stairs hoping to find Wei-Lee or something to defend herself. Jade heard them running after her. Chancing a glance over her shoulder, she saw they were right behind her as she raced through the house trying to get to the kitchen.

She was almost there when a man stepped out of the doorway, into her path. He was Asian but what caught her attention was the knife in his hand. Red liquid dripped from it onto the tile floor. She managed to duck around him and into the kitchen where she was halted at the sight of Wei-Lee. She lay dead in a slowly spreading pool of blood.

A hand grabbed her shoulder and tried to spin her around. Her reflexes drove her forward, jumping over the housekeeper’s body she dove for the cordless phone to dial 911. She managed to dial two digits before the phone was knocked out of her hand and it went flying across the floor.

Rough hands grabbed her and tore her clothing as she tried to get away. It was useless. They were too strong. It was too much for her. The sight of the dead housekeeper, the men in her house…the blood. There was so much blood.

A hand reached up and put a cloth over her mouth, she fought against it but it was no use. She had no strength left. As her world faded to darkness the last thing she heard was, “Do not hurt her. Ling will not be happy if she is harmed.”

Holy Ma-Zolie!

May 1, 2013

What a busy couple of weeks its been since I last wrote. Warmer weather has sprung itself and low-and-behold I am swamped busy at the stores leaving no time to do the bulk of my paperwork at the store, which in turn eats into my playtime. Not to mention the glorious walks that I enjoy with the hubby and kiddos. All of which of course means I end up being so busy I dont get time to update the lot of you on the insanity that is my life.

Nothing overly new on the business front. The fine details are almost sorted out with the stores and their transfer. Few loose ends to wrap up. So excited for it to be over and done.

We lost a good family friend the weekend I was away and said our goodbyes last week to him. This week we lost my husbands grandmother, we will be out to say our goodbyes on the weekend.

The rugrats are doing well my middle daughter finally picked out her piece for CML (the big piano competition they do in the summertime). My oldest is playing Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up”, middle is playing the theme to James Bond and youngest is doing Elton John’s “Dont Let The Sun Go Down On Me”. Defiantly a strong line up.

Just heard back from my cover designer and shes going to start work on book two, Dragon Twins, cover shortly! Now I am just waiting on word back from my editor and then I should be able to get a date ironed out for a release! Hoping for a late June/ early July date 🙂

That just about covers everything that’s been happening in my world! How has everyone else been since I last chatted with you?

Blogging From A to Z — ‘Time’

April 23, 2013

a-to-z-letters-tDefinition: The indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole. (Yep. Googled that one)

Time is one thing that we always complain there is never enough of. I for one know that there are never enough hours in the day for me to do what it is that I need to get done. There’s always some thing that crops up in my way that prevents me from completing everything. I tend to minimize that somewhat with a finely tuned schedule and things to do list that generally keeps me on track however even that has its downfalls as it doesn’t allow for much in the way of flexibility.

Unless you pencil it in of course 😉

I love my days when I have the entire plan worked out.  What about you are you a planner or a panster when it comes to your day?

Blogging From A to Z — ‘Support’

April 22, 2013

a-to-z-letters-sDefinition: To bear the weight of.

One of the things that I love about the Moms Weekend away I am just back from is the discussions we have. They tend to be deeper and more meaningful than our usual everyday conversations. One topic that never fails to come up is the support we get from our spouses and how vital that is to us.

And thats not to say that we are not strong and independent women–we are. But rather the knowledge that there is someone who is there for us, through thick and thin and how amazing that never ending supply of love really is.

The biggest thing I missed this weekend was the amazing hugs my hubby gives. They are the thing that I need most out of  my hectic days. Without them I end up feeling like Im missing something important. Thankfully he missed me just as much and I have been hugged quite a bit.

What does your spouse or significant other or even a friend do that you find to be an important part of your support system? Or is there something you with they did but they dont?

Blogging From A to Z — ‘Quiet Rest’

April 19, 2013

a-to-z-letters-qa-to-z-letters-rThis post is going to have to cover two days as by the time you read this post I should be well on my way to my Annual Mom’s Getaway Weekend.

It is a weekend I have come to look forward to every year. It is my great big giant reset button. It is the break I need so I can come back and be the Mom/Wife I need to be after I had a break from being the business owner/writer that takes up the rest of my time.

Not that I dont love and enjoy my life but I like everyone else need a break every so often. I cant be superwoman all the time.

Will I miss my monsters and my hubby? Of course! I miss them and they miss me.

My staff are wonderful folks and will do just fine. If there is anything it can wait until Monday for me to get back at it.

My book is on sale and should be just fine without me around.

So with that I bid you adieu…have a wonderful weekend… and if you like suspense thrillers … have a look at mine and maybe give mine a try.. its 99cents this weekend only 🙂

Blogging From A to Z — ‘Procrastinate’

April 18, 2013

a-to-z-letters-pDefinition: To put off doing something.

That is exactly what I have been doing instead of writing this post or doing anything that remotely resembles work.

I have instead been hanging about on Facebook (always a great place for procrastinators) and surfing the web for inspiration for a new book I have been cooking up.

The new book will be completely different from my original series and it will be a romantic suspense and not a thriller like I usually write. I think it is going to be a great read myself. That is if i can ever start writing it and not surfing the net. Ahh well.

What do you do when you procrastinate?
